Employees of the City of Yarra voted to adopt a rollover agreement until July 21, 2021, with a salary increase of 1.25% or US$25 per week, whichever is greater, starting with the first pay period, on September 1, 2020 or later. The ANMF and other unions are also arguing with Melbourne City Council after the Council broke its wage offer, which was agreed in principle by the unions in March 2020. The Council withdrew a previously agreed offer of a 6.25% wage increase over three years and is now proposing a 3% increase, which will be paid in increments of 1.5% in 2022 and 2023. ANMF members have not had a salary increase since July 1, 2018 and the Council`s revised salary offer involves a three-year wage freeze. It is a euphemism of how we felt last Friday when the Council`s industry representatives called to say that they did not intend to abide by this agreement in principle. The Council has yet to present a revised offer, but lay the groundwork for a difficult period and the loss of jobs and services if staff insist that the wage increase remains as agreed.
